Customs Takes Part In School Expo
Press Release 24 July 2013
PNG CUSTOMS TAKES PART IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOLS CAREER EXPO IN KOKOPO, EAST NEW BRITAIN PROVINCE
PNG Customs was one of about 20 organisations that took part in the 2nd Annual Secondary Schools' Career Expo held at the Kokopo Secondary School in Kokopo, East New Britain Province from July 24-25, 2013. Eleven schools in the East New Britain Province (excluding Pomio) attended the expo.
Each organisation was allocated a classroom to set up and the awareness sessions were conducted similar to a normal class session that the students are used to. Student groups were rotated from one classroom to the other to listen to the presentations done by the various presenters and exhibitors. Over 500 students attended the Customs sessions conducted over two days. Customs officers explained the roles and importance of Customs as well as how someone could join the organisation. About 30-40 students attended each session.
The annual expo concept is a valuable one as it targets students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 who are on the verge of applying to enter tertiary institutions with intentions of seeking employment shortly after. With that in mind, the organising committee invites all tertiary institutions to attend the expo, as well as selected important Government agencies like Police, Customs and other Government and private organisations.
